Have you volunteered to help with Circus Quirkus this year?
It's that time of year again when we are preparing for our annual family entertainment event, Circus Quirkus, held for local special needs and disadvantaged children. We couldn't do it without our generous local sponsors, both individuals and businesses that cover the cost of the production and tickets for us to provide this wonderful show to entertain children of all ages (and a few adults, too!).
This year's Circus Quirkus will run on the 25th and 26th of July. Please speak with PDG Paul if you can volunteer to assist for the shows - and you get to enjoy the show as well!
This show brings joy and happiness to Canberra’s children associated with many local charities, disability services and welfare organisations. To be able to brighten the lives of these children is so rewarding and only made possible through the generosity of those more fortunate.
However, the benefits of sponsorship doesn't end with the show. Sponsorship of this event not only enables this fun and engaging event; it also provides critical support for our local Rotary projects, including our Rotary District 9705 Vulnerable Youth Project and in the last year, support to Kingsford Smith School, encouraging young students to be all they can be.
The Rotary Club of Canberra is the initiating and Sponsor Club for the Vulnerable Youth Project in Canberra and has helped to establish a safe home for at-risk youth and young people facing homelessness. Their situation may be due to factors such as a dysfunctional family environment, abuse at home, family violence and/or a complete breakdown of communication within the family unit. Research shows that youths living on the streets tend to move in and out of homelessness for life. This program acts as a ‘circuit breaker’. The children can safely stay at a ‘Rubys Home’ whilst social workers and psychologists work with the families and children to try to solve their problems and enable them to return home. There is currently one home in Canberra and it has an 86% success rate in reuniting families and avoiding young people becoming homeless - or worse. Our fundraising contributes to the operation of this home and hopefully we’ll see another home open in the future.
We know those attending will enjoy this year's event and our Rotarians usually line up to volunteer to be there to greet attendees - it's such great fun.
To all our sponsors, we say "thank you".
