Cyclone Warriors: The ADF and Cyclone Tracy

A retired naval officer and high school teacher, Dr Tom Lewis OAM served in the Australian Defence Force, where he saw active service as an intelligence analyst in the Middle East. In 2003 Tom was awarded the Order of Australia Medal for meritorious service to the Royal Australian Navy, particularly in the promotion of Australian naval history. In 2021 he was the winner of the Commodore Sam Bateman National Book Prize from the Australian Naval Institute for “Teddy Sheean VC”. Tom will talk about the upcoming release of his latest book, Cyclone Warriors: The Australian Defence Force and Cyclone Tracy December 1974 – June 1975. Dr Lewis will also have a range of his previous titles available for sale after the meeting. |

Thomas Anthony Lewis, OAM (born 1958) is an Australian author, popular military historian, public speaker, and former naval officer. An author since 1989, Lewis worked as a high school teacher, and served as naval officer for 20 years, seeing active service in Baghdad during the Iraq war, and working in East Timor. In June 2003, Lewis was awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia for meritorious service to the Royal Australian Navy, particularly in the promotion of Australian naval history. |

We will be helping to unpack donations and stock shelves from 11am to 12 noon. If you wish to join in, please ensure you wear closed in, non-slip shoes and be ready to be on your feet for an hour. St John’s Care aims to bridge the gap and break the cycle of disadvantage, isolation, and economic hardship with compassion, advocacy, respect, and encouragement through the provision of emergency relief and other programs.
